The population of Iceland at the end of the 4th quarter 2010 was 318,500, 160,000 males and 158,500 females.  The population increased by 280 from the previous quarter. Foreign citizens were 21,200 by the end of the 4th Quarter 2010. Inhabitants of the capital region were 202,400.
 
A total of 1,200 children were born in the 4th quarter and 510 persons died. Net migration was -440 persons. Net migration of persons with Icelandic citizenship was -140, and -300 for foreign citizens. More males than females emigrated.
 
Norway was the most popular destination for Icelandic citizens with 250 persons emigrating in the quarter. A total of 500 Icelandic citizens emigrated to Denmark, Norway or Sweden, out of 750. Of the 1,100 foreign citizens who emigrated, the largest group (370) went to Poland.
 
Immigrants of Icelandic citizenship came mostly from Denmark, Norway or Sweden, 460 out of 610, while Poland was the country of origin for most of the foreign immigrants, 210 out of 800. United States came second with 80 immigrants.
