In July 2026, there were 14,500 unemployed individuals aged 16 to 74 according to seasonally adjusted results from the Icelandic Labour force survey. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.3%, the employment rate 73.8% and the activity rate 78.7%. Seasonally adjusted unemployment increased by 1.2 percentage points between June and July, the employment rate decreased by 0.9 percentage points and the activity rate increased by 0.1 percentage points.
According to the unadjusted measurements, unemployment was 5.5% in July 2026 while the number of unemployed individuals was around 12,900. The employment rate was 75.5%, corresponding to just under 221,900 people, and the activity rate was 79,8%, or about 234,800 individuals in the labour force. Compared with the same month in 2025, measured unemployment increased by 2.3 percentage points, the employment rate fell by 4.8 percentage points and the activity rate decreased by 3.1 percentage points.
