A total of 11,300 individuals were unemployed in January 2025 according to seasonally adjusted results from the Icelandic Labour Force Survey. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.8%, the employment rate was 78.1%, and the activity rate 82.0%. Seasonally adjusted unemployment increased by one percentage point from the previous month. The employment rate decreased by 0.7 percentage points, while the labor force participation rate increased slightly, or by 0.1 percentage point. The measured unemployment rate in January was 5.2%, the measured avtivity rate was 82.0%, and the employment rate according to the survey was 77.8%.
In the beginning of February, Statistics Iceland published a report on the revision of the population in the Labour Force Survey back to 2011, all figures from the survey monthly, quarterly and annual, have now been updated in accordance with the revised population.
