According to measurement from the Icelandic Labour Force Survey, the unemployment rate among individuals aged 16 to 74 was 3.2% in September 2025. The number of unemployed persons was approximately 7,500. The employment rate stood at 78.4%, corresponding to about 228,200 individuals, and the activity rate was 81%, representing about 235,700 people in the labour force.
Compared with the same month in 2024, unemployment decreased by 1.3 percentage points, the employment rate increased by 0.6 percentage points, and the activity rate fell by 0.5 percentage points.
Seasonally adjusted figures for September 2025 showed an unemployment rate of 3.7%. The seasonally adjusted employment rate was 78.7%, and the activity rate was 81.8%. Between August and September, seasonally adjusted unemployment declined by 2 percentage points, the employment rate increased by 0.9 percentage points while the activity rate decreased by 0.4 percentage points.
