The average length of paternity leave shorter in 2010 than 2008
The average length of paternity leave was 79 days in 2010, a decrease from 103 days in 2008. Since the financial crisis the number of days fathers take in paternity leave has decreased by 24 days on average. The average length of maternity leave was similar both years, 175 days in 2010 and 178 days in 2008. There were fewer recipients of payments for maternity/paternity leave in 2010 than in 2009 as there were fewer births in 2010 than in 2009.
