The building cost index (BCI), compiled in February 2022, is 101.4 with a new base in December 2021=100. The index is 0.7% higher than in January 2022. The price of domestic materials increased by 0.6% while the price of imported materials decreased by 0.6%. Cost of machinery, transport and energy consumption increased by 5.3%.
The compilation of labour cost is now, for the first time, based on The Icelandic wage survey (ISWEL), reflecting changes in labour costs from December 2021 until January 2022.
Previously announced dates of dissemination for the building cost index in the year 2022 have been updated. The index will be updated on Statistics Iceland's website on the following dates:
