The Icelandic consumer price index (CPI) rose by 5.3% from April 2006 to April 2007. The inflation has decreased the last two months, mainly because of reduced VAT rate for food and non-alcoholic beverages since 1 March. At the same time the CPI excluding housing rose by 3.2%.
In a new issue of the Statistical Series the development of the consumer price index in the period from April 2006 to April 2007 is described. The methodology for the new Constant tax rate index is explained and the intended changes in the temporal coverage, i.e. the period of price collection, of the CPI are described.
