The Icelandic consumer price index (CPI) rose by 11.9% from April 2008 to April 2009. At the same time the CPI less housing cost rose by 15.6%.
In a new issue of the Statistical Series the development of the consumer price index in the period from April 2008 to April 2009 is described and the rebasing of the index in March 2009 is briefed. It also includes a discussion about the methodology for the calculation of owner occupied housing cost and the influence of increased non-monetary payments in housing purchase contracts. Furthermore, special attention is drawn to methodological questions arising in times of economic turmoil.
