The Consumer Price Index (CPI) based on prices in September 2026, is 697.3 points (May 1988=100), 0.39% higher than in the previous month. The CPI less housing cost is 556.0 points, 0.40% higher than in August 2026.
Price of diesel increased by 18.1% (effect on index 0.15%) and the price of petrol increased by 16.1% (0.28%). Prices of international flights decreased by 11.7% (-0.37%).
On 1 September, the temporary reduction in value-added tax (VAT) on diesel and petrol expired, causing the VAT rate on these fuels to increase from 11% to 24%. If the prices of these fuels were calculated with 11% VAT instead of 24% the price of diesel would be 5.7% higher than in the previous month (effect on index 0.05%) and the price of petrol would be 3.9% higher (0.07%). The overall impact of the VAT change on the CPI is therefore estimated to be around 0.32% upward.
The CPI is 5.9% higher in September 2026 than in September 2025 and the CPI less housing cost is 5.7% higher than one year ago.
The CPI compiled in the middle of September 2026, 697.3 points, is applicable for indexation purposes in November 2026.
