The producer price index (PPI) in April 2008 was 145.9 points (4. quarter 2005 = 100), 6.3% higher than in the previous month. The PPI for fish products was 162.0 points which is 3.2% higher than in March (effect on the index 1.1%) and the PPI for power intensive industry products was 187.9 points, 11.7% higher (2.7%). The PPI for food products was 6.3% higher than in March (1.0%), mainly because of a rise in dairy prices. The PPI for other manufactured products increased 5.6% (1.5%).
The PPI for domestically sold products was 6.7% higher than in the previous month
(2.4%) while the index for exported products increased 6.1% (3.9%).
From April 2007, the PPI has increased 20.3%, the PPI for fish products has increased 28.3% and the PPI for power intensive industry products has risen 27.8%. The PPI for food products rose 12.1% in the same period.

In evaluating the price changes accounted for here, it may be taken into consideration that the trade-weighted average price of foreign exchange in April 2008 was 4.1% higher than in the preceding month and 27.3% higher than in April 2007.
