The producer price index (PPI) in April 2009 was 164.1 points (4. quarter 2005 = 100), 7.2% higher than in the previous month. The PPI for fish products was 208.4 points which is 11.4% higher than in March 2009 (effect on the index 3.7%) and the PPI for power intensive industry products was 156.9 points, 10.2% higher (3.1%). The PPI for food products was 0.3% higher than in March and the PPI for other manufactured products increased by 1.8% (0.4%).
The PPI for domestically sold products was 0.2% lower (-0.1%) than in the previous month while the index for exported products increased 10.7% (7.3%).
From April 2008 the PPI has increased by 12.5%. The PPI for fish products has increased by 28.6% and the PPI for power intensive industry products has decreased by 16.5%. In the same period the PPI for food products rose by 14.8%.

In evaluating the price changes accounted for here, it may be taken into consideration that the trade-weighted average price of foreign exchange in April 2009 was 11.9% higher than in the preceding month whereas it was 44% higher than in April 2008.
