The producer price index (PPI) in June 2009 was 169.9 points (4. quarter 2005 = 100), 1.1% higher than in the previous month. The PPI for fish products was 217.6 points which is 0.7% higher than in May 2009 (effect on the index 0.4%) and the PPI for power intensive industry products was 169.2 points, 2.7% higher (0.7%). The PPI for food products was 0.9% (0.1%) higher than in May and the PPI for other manufactured products decreased by 0.4% (-0.1%).
The PPI for domestically sold products was 0.4% higher (0.1%) than in the previous month while the index for exported products increased 1.5% (1.0%).
From June 2008 the PPI has increased by 11.0%. The PPI for fish products has increased by 25.6% and the PPI for power intensive industry products has decreased by 13.3%. In the same period the PPI for food products rose by 14.2%.
Basic weights for the PPI are revised annually and are as of June 2009 based on Statistics Iceland’s PRODCOM survey for the years 2007 and 2008.

In evaluating the price changes accounted for here, it may be taken into consideration that the trade-weighted average price of foreign exchange in June 2009 was 2.7% higher than in the preceding month whereas it was 44.2% higher than in June 2008.
