The producer price index (PPI) in May 2009 was 168.0 points (4th quarter 2005=100), 2.4% higher than in the previous month. The PPI for fish products was 216.1 points which is 3.7% higher than in April 2009 (effect on the index 1.2%) and the PPI for power intensive industry products was 164.8 points, 5.0% higher (1.6%). The PPI for food products was 0.2% higher than in April and the PPI for other manufactured products decreased by 1.9% (-0.4%).
The PPI for domestically sold products was 0.5% lower (-0.2%) than in the previous month while the index for exported products increased by 3.7% (2.5%).
From May 2008 the PPI has increased by 13.9%. The PPI for fish products has increased by 33.9% and the PPI for power intensive industry products has decreased by 12.6%. In the same period the PPI for food products rose by 13.4%.

In evaluating the price changes accounted for here, it may be taken into consideration that the trade-weighted average price of foreign exchange in May 2009 was 2.9% higher than in the preceding month whereas it was 47.5% higher than in May 2008.
