The producer price index (PPI) in October 2008 was 186.9 points (4. quarter 2005 = 100), 12.7% higher than in the previous month. The PPI for fish products was 226.0 points which is 20.3% higher than in September (effect on the index 6.5%) and the PPI for power intensive industry products was 249.1 points, 14.7% higher (4.1%). The PPI for food products was 3.4% higher than in September (0.6%) and the PPI for other manufactured products increased by 6.3% (1.5%).
The PPI for domestically sold products was 3.1% higher than in the previous month
(1.1%) while the index for exported products increased 17.8% (11.6%).
Subindices are now published for the first time for fresh catfish and cod back to March 2007 and for fresh haddock back to November 2007.
From October 2007 the PPI has increased 61.4%. The PPI for fish products has increased 80.4% and the PPI for power intensive industry products has risen 101.5%. In the same period the PPI for food products rose 19.2%.

In evaluating the price changes accounted for here, it may be taken into consideration that the trade-weighted average price of foreign exchange in October 2008 was 17.4% higher than in the preceding month and 74.5% higher than in October 2007.
