Statistics Iceland has released a new issue of the Statistical Series, containing results from the continuous household expenditure survey (HES) 2004-2006. The results are broken down by type of household, residence, quartiles of disposable income and quartiles of total expenditures. The results are compared with the results from the 2003-2005 household expenditure survey.
The average household expenditure in 2004-2006 has increased by 7.7% from 2003–2005 and was about 368 thousand kronur per month. The average household size continues to decrease, it contains 2.47 individuals compared with 2.50 for the years 2003–2005, so the expenditure per individual has increased by 9.1%.
The average household disposable income is approximately 390 thousand kronur per month, nearly 160 thousand kronur per individual. Household disposable income is for most groups higher than their expenditures but the consumption expenditures amounts on the average to 94% of the disposable income.
The number of households participating in the survey was 1.607 and the response rate was only about 45%.
