Statistics Iceland has published the results of its third survey on the use of ICT and eCommerce in enterprises 2006. The survey was conducted earlier this year.
Results show, that almost all enterprises in Iceland use computers and the Internet or 97–100%. Nine out of every ten enterprises with access to the Internet use xDSL connection and 44% have a connection with a download speed of 2 Mb/sec or more. Around 95% of connected enterprises use virus checking or protection software, 81% use firewalls and 75% use off-site data backup. Eight out of every ten enterprises have partly substituted traditional postal mail by electronic means of communication in the last five years.
The percentage of enterprises selling goods and services over the Internet has increased. In 2005 around 32% of the enterprises sold goods or services over the Internet, whereas 21% of the enterprises were selling via Internet in 2002. The same applies to puchases made via Internet. Almost six out of every ten enterprises had ordered goods or services for their own use via Internet in 2005, compaired to 37% of the enterprises in 2002.
Results are presented by economic activity and by number of employees.
