Overnight stays increased by 25% compared to April 2010
In April 2011, overnight stays in hotels were 110,000 compared with 88,000 in April 2010. Overnight stays increased in all regions except in the North. In April 2010 there was an eruption in Eyjafjallajökull, affecting tourism in Iceland.

Nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 74% of the total number of overnight stays in April and increased by 27% compared with April 2010. At the same time there was a 21% increase in overnight stays of Icelanders compared with the same period last year.

Overnight stays in hotels in the first four months of 2011 increased between years
The number of overnight stays in the first four months of 2011 was 343,600, a 9% increase between years.


The data above only show overnight stays in hotels that are operating for the whole year. Guesthouses and summer hotels are not included in this category.
