Overnight stays increased by 14% compared to August 2010
In August 2011, overnight stays in hotels were 217,600 compared with 190,500 in August 2010.

Nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 86% of the total number of overnight stays in August and increased by 12% compared with August 2010. At the same time there was a 28% increase in overnight stays of Icelanders compared with August  2010.

Overnight stays in hotels increased between years
The number of overnight stays in the first eight months of 2011 was 1,085,400, an 12% increase compared with the same period 2010.

The data above only show overnight stays in hotels that are operating for the whole year. Guesthouses and summer hotels are not included in this category.
