In February 2016, overnight stays in hotels were 267,900 which is an increase of 37% compared with February 2015.
Nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 89% of the total number of overnight stays in February and increased by 41% compared with February 2015. At the same time the overnight stays of Icelanders increased by 15%.
In the Capital region, the number of overnight stays was 200,400, which is a 38% increase compared with February 2015. Around 75% of all overnight stays were in the Capital region. Overnight stays in the South region were 35,600 in February 2016. Overseas residents with most overnight stays in Iceland in February were residents from the UK (101,600), the USA (47,900), and Germany (17,700).
For the last twelve months from March 2015 to February 2016 overnight stays in hotels were 2,963,500 which is an increase of around 25% compared with the previous year.
Occupancy rate for bedrooms in hotels in February 2016 was 63,5%
In February the occupancy rate for bedrooms was highest in the Capital region, around 86,2%.
