Overnight stays in hotels were similar between years in January
In January 2011, overnight stays in hotels were 54,200 compared to 54,800 in January 2010. In the Capital region and the Southwest region overnight stays were similar between years. Overnight stays in January decreased in the North region by 23% and in the West region and the Westfjords by 20% compared to the same period last year. Overnight stays in the East region increased by 53% and in the South region by 9% compared to January 2010.
The number of overnight stays among foreigners increased by 1%, while there was a decrease in overnight stays of Icelanders by 7% compared to the same period last year.
The data above only show overnight stays in hotels that are operating for the whole year. Guesthouses and summer hotels are not included in this category.
