Overnight stays in hotels were similar between years in July
Overnight stays in hotels were 203,400 in July 2009 compared with 202,200 in July 2008. Overnight stays increased in all regions except in the region Southwest, West and Westfjords and in the South region.
Overnight stays of foreigners increased by 3%, while overnight stays of Icelanders decreased by 16% compared with July 2008.
Overnight stays in hotels for the first seven months of 2009 decreased between years
For the first seven months of 2009 the number of overnight stays was 772,100 and decreased by 2% between years. Overnight stays decreased in all regions except in the South region and in the North region. For the first seven months of 2009 the number of overnight stays of foreigners increased by 2% compared with the same period in 2008, while the number of overnight stays of Icelanders decreased by 14%.
The data above only show overnight stays in hotels that are operating for the whole year. Guesthouses and summer hotels are not included in this category.
