Overnight stays increased by 16% compared to June 2010
In June 2011, overnight stays in hotels were 181,000 compared with 157,000 in June 2010.
Nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 85% of the total number of overnight stays in June and increased by 11% compared with June 2010. At the same time there was a 53% increase in overnight stays of Icelanders compared with June 2010.
Overnight stays in hotels increased between years
The number of overnight stays in the first six months of 2011 was 644,700, an 11% increase compared with the same period 2010.
The data above only show overnight stays in hotels that are operating for the whole year. Guesthouses and summer hotels are not included in this category.
