Overnight stays in hotels increased between years
In March 2009, overnight stays in hotels were 84,700 and increased by 2% compared with March 2008. Overnight stays in the South region increased by 28% and in the Capital region by 2%. In other regions overnight stays decreased compared with March 2008.
The number of overnight stays of foreigners in March increased by 1% and of Icelanders by 4%, compared with March 2008.
Overnight stays in hotels for the first three months of 2009 decreased between years
For the first three months of 2009 the number of overnight stays was 212,200 and decreased by 3% between years. Overnight stays decreased in all regions except in the South region and in the North region.
For the first three months of 2009 the number of overnight stays of foreigners increased by 1% compared with same period 2008, while the number of overnight stays of Icelanders decreased by 14%.
The data above only show overnight stays in hotels that are operating for the whole year. Guesthouses and summer hotels are not included in this category.
