Overnight stays in hotels were similar between years
In May 2009, Oovernight stays in hotels were 117,000 in May 2009 compared with 117,900 in May 2008. Overnight stays in the South increased by 12% and in the North region by 9%. In other regions overnight stays decreased compared with May 2008.

Overnight stays of foreigners were similar between years, but while overnight stays of Icelanders decreased by 2% compared with May 2008.


Overnight stays in hotels for the first five months of 2009 decreased between years.
For the first five months of 2009 the number of overnight stays was 420,500 and decreased by 2% between years. Overnight stays decreased in all regions except in the South region and in the North region.
For the first five months of 2009 the number of overnight stays of foreigners increased by 3% compared with the same period in 2008, while the number of overnight stays of Icelanders decreased by 14%.

The data above only show overnight stays in hotels that are operating for the whole year. Guesthouses and summer hotels are not included in this category.
