Overnight stays increased by 12% compared to May 2010
In May 2011, overnight stays in hotels were 119,500 compared with 106,400 in May 2010 (12% increase). Nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 79% of the total number of overnight stays in May and increased by 13% compared with May 2010. At the same time there was a 12% increase in overnight stays of Icelanders compared with the same period last year.

The number of overnight stays in the first five months of 2011 was 463,000, a 10% increase between years.

The data above only show overnight stays in hotels that are operating for the whole year. Guesthouses and summer hotels are not included in this category.
