In October 2015, overnight stays in hotels were 238,000 which is an increase of 30% compared with October 2014.
Nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 88% of the total number of overnight stays in October and increased by 40% compared with October 2014. At the same time the overnight stays of Icelanders decreased by 12%.
In the Capital region, the number of overnight stays was 165,900, which is a 29% increase compared with October 2014. Overnight stays in the South region were 34,400 in October 2015. Overseas residents with most overnight stays in Iceland in October were residents from the UK (44,300), USA the (28,800), and Germany (12,700).
In the last twelve months, from November 2014 until October 2015, overnight stays in hotels were 2,718,740 which is an increase of around 20% compared with the same period in the previous year.
Occupancy rate for bedrooms in hotels in October 2015 was 62%
In October the occupancy rate for bedrooms was highest in the Capital region, around 77%.
