Overnight stays increased by 20% compared to September 2010
In September 2011, overnight stays in hotels were 136,400 compared with 113,900 in September 2010.

Nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 80% of the total number of overnight stays in September and increased by 22% compared with September 2010. At the same time there was an 11% increase in overnight stays of Icelanders compared with September 2010.

Overnight stays in hotels increased between years
The number of overnight stays in the first nine months of 2011 was 1,222,500, a 13% increase compared with the same period 2010.

The data above only show overnight stays in hotels that are operating for the whole year. Guesthouses and summer hotels are not included in this category.
