In September 2015, overnight stays in hotels were 253,000 which is an increase of 27% compared with September 2014.
Nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 89% of the total number of overnight stays in September and increased by 36% compared with September 2014. At the same time the overnight stays of Icelanders decreased by 15%.
In the Capital region, the number of overnight stays was 152,400, which is a 22% increase compared with September 2014. Overnight stays in the South region were 39,100 in September 2015. Overseas residents with most overnight stays in Iceland in September were residents from the USA (56,100), Germany (33,600), and the UK (29,200).
In the last twelve months, from October 2014 until September 2015, overnight stays in hotels were 2,661,140 which is an increase of around 19% compared with the same period in the previous year.
Occupancy rate for bedrooms in hotels in September 2015 was 68%
In September the occupancy rate for bedrooms was highest in the Capital region, around 75%.
