In April 2015, overnight stays in hotels were 174,300 which is an 11% increase compared with April 2014.

Nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 83% of the total number of overnight stays in April and increased by 16% compared with April 2014. At the same time the overnight stays of Icelanders decreased by 10% over the same period.

In the Capital region, the number of overnight stays was 122,800, which is a 5% increase compared with April 2014. Overnight stays in the South region were 22,800 in April 2015. Overseas residents with most overnight stays in Iceland in April were residents from UK (35,800) USA residents (22,700), and Germans (13,700).

In the last twelve months, from May 2014 until April 2015, overnight stays in hotels were 2,427,000 which is an increase of around 13% compared with the same period in the previous year.

Occupancy rate for bedrooms in hotels in April 2015 was 54,5%
In April the occupancy rate for bedrooms was highest in the Capital region, around 71% and in the Southwest, around 56%.

The data above only show overnight stays in hotels that are operating for the whole year. Guesthouses and summer hotels are not included in this category.
