In September 2014, overnight stays in hotels were 199,300 which is a 19% increase compared with September 2013. During the last twelve months overnight stays have increased by 14%.
Nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 83% of the total number of overnight stays in September and increased by 26% compared with September 2013. At the same time the overnight stays of Icelanders decreased by 5%.
In the Capital region, the number of overnight stays was 125,100, which is a 15% increase compared with September 2013. Overnight stays in the South region were 27,600 in September 2014, grew by 29% between years. Overseas residents with most overnight stays in Iceland in September were residents from USA (37,700), UK residents (21,300) and Germans (19,000).

In September the occupancy rate for bedrooms was highest in the Capital region, 84.7% and in the Southwest, around 60,0%.
