In February 2015, overnight stays in hotels were 194,800 which is a 21% increase compared with February 2014. Nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 87% of the total number of overnight stays in February and increased by 25% compared with February 2014. At the same time the overnight stays of Icelanders stayed similar.

In the Capital region, the number of overnight stays was 145,200, which is an 18% increase compared with February 2014. Overnight stays in the South region were 25,100 in February 2015. Overseas residents with most overnight stays in Iceland in January were residents from UK (76,200) USA residents (30,500), and Germans (13,400).

Occupancy rate for bedrooms in hotels in February 2015 was 66%
In January the occupancy rate for bedrooms was highest in the Capital region, around 90% and in the Southwest, around 61%.

The data above only show overnight stays in hotels that are operating for the whole year. Guesthouses and summer hotels are not included in this category.
