The total number of overnight stays was 5.5 million in 2014, which is a 21% increase compared with the year 2013. Nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 80% of the total number of overnight stays and increased by 25% compared with previous year. At the same time overnight stays of Icelanders increased by 6%. From 2013 to 2014 the number of overnight stays increased in all types of accommodation establishments.
Most overnight stays in 2014 were spent by tourists from Britain, Germany, and USA.
In this issue of Statistical Series, Statistics Iceland publishes accommodation statistics for the year 2014. Results are presented by overnight stays, arrivals by different types of accommodation establishments. Figures are broken down by region and citizenship of guests.
