Revenue from foreign tourists during fourth quarter of 2020 was 8.3 billion ISK compared with 88.4 billion for the same period in 2019. In 2020 total revenue from foreign tourists was 117 billion ISK and decreased by 75% compared with the year 2019 when it was 470 billion ISK.
In January, there were 10,460 departures of passengers from Keflavik airport, which is a 93% decrease compared with January last year when departures from the country were 159 thousand. The number of departures of visitors with foreign citizenship decreased by 96% and that of Icelanders by 84%.
Estimated overnight stays in hotels in January were around 20 thousand, a decrease of 93% compared with January 2020 when overnight stays were just over 291 thousand.
This release includes updated statistics on overnight stays and external trade in services. Also updated are statistics on rental cars from the Icelandic Transport Authority, traffic statistics from the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration and passenger count from the Icelandic Tourist Board and ISAVIA through Keflavik Airport along with traffic statistics for Keflavik Airport.
