According to VAT reports, turnover in Icelandic tourism sectors was 27,4 billion ISK in January – February, a decrease of 63% from the previous year.
Estimated overnight stays in hotels in March were around 54 thousand, a decrease of 69% compared with March 2020 when overnight stays were about 174 thousand. The number of overnight stays by Icelanders was 41,800 (+ 107%) and the number of overnight stays by foreign guests was 12,600 (-92%).
In March, there were 7,729 departures of passengers from Keflavik airport, which is a 92% decrease compared with March last year when departures from the country were 95,500. The number of departures of visitors with foreign citizenship decreased by 94% and that of Icelanders by 80%.
This release includes updated statistics on turnover by VAT reports, overnight stays and register based employment. Also updated are statistics on rental cars from the Icelandic Transport Authority, traffic statistics from the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration and passenger count from the Icelandic Tourist Board and ISAVIA through Keflavik Airport along with traffic statistics for Keflavik Airport.
