Revenue from foreign tourists during the first quarter of 2021 was 7.8 billion ISK compared with 64.6 billion for the same period in 2020. In the twelve-month period from April 2020 to March 2021, income from foreign tourists was 60.2 billion ISK compared with 441 billion ISK in the twelve-month period a year earlier.
In April, there were 8,700 departures of passengers from Keflavik airport compared with 1,262 in April 2020.
Estimated overnight stays in hotels in April were 34,700 compared with 9,200 in April 2020. The number of overnight stays by Icelanders was 26,100 (+ 323%) and the number of overnight stays by foreign guests was 8,600 (+ 186%).
This release includes updated statistics on overnight stays and external trade in services. Also updated are statistics on rental cars from the Icelandic Transport Authority, traffic statistics from the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration and passenger count from the Icelandic Tourist Board and ISAVIA through Keflavik Airport along with traffic statistics for Keflavik Airport.
