Statistics Iceland presents accommodation statistics in Iceland for the year 2008. Results are presented by overnight stays, arrivals, average length of stay and occupancy rates by different types of accommodation establishments. Figures are broken down by season, region and citizenship of guests.
The total number of overnight stays was 2.7 million in the year 2008, which is a 2.7% increase from the year 2007. From 2007 to 2008 the number of overnight stays increased in some types of accommodation establishments and decreased in others. The number increased by 8.9% with camping sites, by 6.7% in youth hostels and 2.7% by hotels and guesthouses. At the same time the number of overnight stays decreased by 4% in sleeping-bag facilities, 1.3% in holiday centres. Overnight stays in lodges in wilderness were similar between years.
