Monthly regular salaries were 348 thousand ISK in the year 2010
In the year 2010 employees’ mean monthly regular salaries in the private sector were 348 thousand ISK. The most common monthly regular earnings were between 175 and 225 thousand ISK and about 20% of employees received earnings on that interval. The median monthly regular salaries were 294 thousand ISK and thus, fifty percent of the employees had regular monthly salaries under that amount. Mean monthly regular salaries for men were 374 thousand ISK and 309 thousand ISK for women.

Monthly total salaries for full-time employees were 438 thousand ISK in the year 2010
Mean monthly total salaries for full-time employees in the private sector were 438 thousand ISK and the median was 391 thousand ISK. The most common interval for monthly total salaries was 325 to 375 thousand ISK and about 15% of full-time employees received total salaries on that interval. Mean total regular salaries for full-time employees were 409 thousand ISK and the median was 363 thousand ISK. Regular salaries were 381 thousand ISK and the median 321 thousand ISK. Paid weekly hours were 43.2.

The gap between highest and lowest earnings decreases
Full-time employees in the fourth quartile of the earning distribution received 2.7 times higher total salaries than employees in the first quartile in the year 2010. In 2005 this ratio was 3.0 and peaked in the year 2008 when it was 3.3. This can be derived from the quartile share ratio.

Statistics Iceland has released a new issue of the Statistical Series within the category of Wages, income and labour market. The issue; Earnings in the private sector 2010, is based on the Icelandic survey on wages, earnings and labour costs for the economic activities of Manufacturing, Construction, Wholesale and retail trade; repair, Transport, storage and communications and Financial intermediation. Results are calculated for main economic activities, occupations and sex and apply to the private sector.
