The wage index for the 1st quarter 2007 is 118.6 points, 4.1% higher than in the previous quarter. The wage index for the private sector has increased by 4.2% during the same period. Wage increases range from 3.3% for general workers to 5.9% for clerks. In the economic activity of Financial intermediation (J), regular wages rose by 6.5% while the increase was 3.4% in Manufacturing (D). The quarterly increase of the wage index for the public sector was 3.7%.
The wage index has risen by 11.0% from the 1st quarter 2006. The annual increase of the wage index for the private market was 11.7% and 9.5% for the public sector.
The wage index is a quarterly index and shows the changes of regular hourly wages in the private sector by occupational group and economic activity. The index shows changes of wages in the public sector and replaces an earlier index of public servants and bankers.
Annual increase ranges from 9.8% for craft workers to 13.1% for general workers.
The annual increase of the wage index ranges from 10.5% in the economic activity of Wholesale and retail trade; repair (G) to 13.7% in Transportation (I).
