Wages increased 4.3% from previous quarter
Wages increased by 4.3% on average between the 2nd and 3th quarter of 2011 according to the quarterly wage index. During the same period wages in the private sector increased by 3.9% and by 5.1% in the public sector. Wages increased by 8.2% from previous year, 8.5% in the private sector and 7.4% in the public sector.
Wages in the private sector by economic activity and occupational group
From the previous quarter, wages increased by 4.3% in the economic activity of Transport, storage and communication and Financial intermediation. During the same period wages in Wholesale increased by 3.6%. The annual change of wage index ranged from 5.7% in Construction to 10.7% in the economic activity of Financial intermediation.
Wages for General, machine and specialized workers increased by 4.5% from previous quarter, while wages for Managers increased by 3.0%. Annual change ranged from 7.2% for Managers and Craft workers to 9.6 % for Professionals.
Collective agreements
Collective agreements in the Icelandic labour market, which were implemented last summer, affect the wage index in the 3th quarter 2011.
