Every autumn Statistics Iceland collects data from schools at the upper secondary and tertiary level about enrolled students. These data include the number of students, sex, line of study, progress of study and mode of teaching. The number of students has been increasing every year and in autumn 2004 there are 40,497 students enrolled, more than ever before. The number of registered students at the tertiary level has increased by 92.0% since 1997 while the number of students at the upper secondary level has increased by 19.8%.
