Institutions for the elderly were 92 in the year 2006. There of 68 (73.9%) were managed by central or local government, 18 (19.6%) were non-profit institutions and 6 (6,5%) were private institutions. In December 2006 there were 3.458 beds and places in retirement homes, nursing homes and wards, thereof were 2.138 or 61.8% places in nursing homes. From 2001 to 2006 beds and places increased by 232 (7.2%). The change consisted in an increased number of places in nursing homes and decreased number of places in retirement homes. In the year 2006 day-care places were 485 and had increased by 123 (34%) from the year 2001.
