On 1 January 2020 the population of Iceland was 364,134 compared with 356,991 1 January 2019. The population growth was 2.0% or 7,143 persons. This increase was mainly due to positive net migration in 2019 (4,961) together with natural population growth, i.e. births less deaths (2,177). The population has grown in the past five years by an annual average growth rate of 2.0%.
