The number of persons in the labour force in the 4th quarter of 2011 was 175,700 which correspond to an activity rate of 78.4%. This is the lowest rate ever measured by the Icelandic Labour Force Survey. The number of employed persons was 165,100 and unemployed persons were 10,600. The employment rate was 73.7% and the unemployment rate was 6%. The number of both unemployed and employed persons decreased from the 4th quarter of 2010. Unemployed decreased by 2,600 and employed by 500.
