The general government financial balance was positive by 5.5% of GDP in 2007 or 11,3% of its total revenue. In 2006, the surplus was 6.3% of GDP and in 2005 4.9%. This good result is mostly due to high surpluses in central government finances in 2005, 2006 and 2007, which amounted to 4.4%, 5.3% and 4.0% of GDP, respectively. But the local government finances have also turned to better more favourable results in these three years and showed a postive financial balance of 0.3% of GDP in 2006 and 0.6% of GDP in 2007.
