Women and men in Iceland 1975-2005

United Nations declared the year 1975 an International Women´s Year. The aim was to promote equality, development and peace. In Iceland the status of women and men was analysed and proposals put forward to promote gender equality. On the 24th of October 1975 thousands of Icelandic women went on strike to stress the importance of their share of work in the society.
