The total number of overnight stays was 6.5 million in the year 2015, which is a 19% increase compared with the year 2014. Nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 86% of the total number of overnight stays in 2015 and increased by 27% compared with previous year. At the same time overnight stays of Icelanders decreased by 14%. From 2014 to 2015 the number of overnight stays increased in all types of accommodation establishments.
