About the data
The data is continuous from 1978. Data for the years 1978-2011 are compiled from the National Register, but from 2011 they are based on Statistics Iceland's new method for estimating population.
Data from the years before 1978 in the name race are based on censuses conducted in 1703, 1816, 1835, 1840, 1845, 1850, 1855, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1890, 1901, 1910 and 1920. When playing the name race, the player assumes that the development is linear between censuses.
