Computers are on 96% of Icelandic households and 95% of households have access to the internet. The number of internet users has increased from last year and is 96% of the population. 44% of internet users connect to the internet via mobile phones or smartphones and of those 45% connect daily. 40% of internet users connect to the internet outside of their homes, which is an increase of 7% from the previous year.
Handheld devices for connecting to the internet outside of homes was the subject of the special module of the research of Statistics Iceland on the usage of individuals of computers and the internet. A publication of Statistics Iceland includes a brief outline of the main results of the survey.
